This is a project that aims at mitigating the effects of climate change through restoration and deforestation prevention. In our first phase Using 13 youth groups we have planted 39000 trees around Blantyre rural. We have opened 5 nurseries that produced 100000 seedlings. The first phase of the project was successful with the help from Global ChangeMakers.
The second phase of the project which is proudly sponsored by the government of Switzerland through its embassy to Malawi is still in progress. So far we have achieved 70% of our objectives.

We see every challenge as an opportunity, and this initiative helps us ensure that our youth, women and communities are better prepared to manage situations they find themselves in. We are invested in an innovative approach that empowers our community and delivers the support they need, when they need it.

Since 2014 we have been training youth and women in various courses like Monitoring and Evaluation, leadership skills, HIV and AIDS prevention and Management, forest management,entrepreneurship, Data management and Project Management. Up to date we have trained 3000 girls, 2000 boys and 1500 women.

The second phase of the project called Fighting Against Natural Threats Amongst Humans (FANTAH) has just ended. We owe the success of the project to our main funders the Government of Switzerland through its embassy to Malawi. The project has delivered and as an organization we are proud of what we have achieved. Planting close to 100,000 trees in 1 year was not a joke.

The project “ Enhancing Urban-Environmental-Sustainability-Through Fighting-Climate-Change-Impact With Total Community Engagement" The project started in 2015 after the devastated floods that hit Malawi including Blantyre City. The project aims at reducing the impact of climate climate that have been caused by deforestation and carbon emissions in Blantyre townships. The project involves the restoration of the degraded-mountains in Blantyre city. Since people are also cultivating in some of the mountain tops, its impossible to relocate them. Therefore the restoration involves planting fertility-enhancing-trees like acacia in the same fields which are cared by farmers as they care for their crops.

It is also involving mechanisms that are reducing deforestation such as community established local-bylaws and advocating for community use of Liquified-Petroleum-Gas(LGP) Stoves whereby reducing Carbon-emissions as-well.

This year the project has been funded by UNDP under Global Environmental Fund(GEF) through its Small Grants Programme (SGP).

In Malawi's Nsanje district, there are two areas (traditional authorities) facing serious problems due to frequent flooding. TA Nyatikaza and TA Ndamera. When  TA Nyachikadza floods, residents of this lowland community evacuate to the highlands of TA Ndamera. In 1997, the Government of Malawi  declared TA Nyatikaza a flood prone area. 

The problems facing these two communities are getting worse every year and becoming more and more dangerous for  residents(Stanford University, 2017). The most notable effects of floods in the district is water shortages. The situation worsened earlier this year because of the 3 consecutive tropical cyclone freddy that hit the whole nation. 

Busy Youth Organisation with partners from Friends of Malawi (FOMA), Loss and Damage Youth Coalition in collaboration with Climate Justice and Resilience Fund, Niwano Foundation and Global Giving, is implementing series of projects which are providing water to Cyclone Freddy Victims.
